On May 4, 2021, Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai offered psychological help to a police officer who lost her three children and a house help to a fire tragedy in Nakuru County.
According to a statement from the National Police Service (NPS), the officer's house was destroyed in the fire, leaving her without a home.
"This is a difficult and painful experience. PC Mary, it is not easy and my prayers are with you and your family. May God comfort you with peace that surpasses human understanding," Mutyambai said.
He added, "I therefore extend my support to ensure the officer is settled and offered the necessary psychosocial assistance."
The fire occurred on May 2, 2021, when a candle is believed to have caused the death of the four. Neighbours had alerted the police when they saw smoke billowing from the building, but they did not know that there were people inside the house.
Former Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko also offered to help the officer if she needed it.
The incident is the latest in a series of tragic house fires in Kenya, including one in Murang'a County where two children were burnt to death after a gas cylinder exploded inside the house.
