On May 4, 2021, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) announced that Zoo FC had been expelled from the 2020/21 FKF Premier League season due to match fixing.
The decision was made by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, which also ordered the relegation of Zoo FC to the FKF Division One League for the 2021/2022 season.
According to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, Zoo FC had contravened Article 18 of the FDC, which deals with the manipulation of football matches and competitions.
As a result, Zoo FC was ordered to contact FIFA within 30 days to implement a prevention plan aimed at preventing and combating match manipulation.
FKF immediately implemented the order, writing to Zoo FC chairman to inform him of the decision.
‘We wish to inform you that we are in receipt of correspondence from FIFA dated May 4, 2021, with regard to a FIFA disciplinary Committee ruling against your club on grounds of Manipulation of football matches and competition,' FKF CEO Barry Otieno wrote in the letter.
Regrettably, in view of the aforementioned decision and in accordance with FKF’s obligation to FIFA statutes, the federation has expelled your club from the 2020/2021 FKF Premier League season and relegated Zoo FC to the FKF Division One League for the season 2021/2022,' the statement added.
At the time of the expulsion, Zoo FC was sitting at the bottom of the 18-team log with eight points, having won only one game, drawn five, and lost eight out of 14 matches.
