Published on May 4, 2021, Tanzania President Samia Suluhu's two-day State visit to Kenya was marked by a clever detour to avoid the notorious Mombasa road traffic.
President Suluhu, who landed in Kenya on Tuesday morning, had her entourage use the Southern Bypass, then headed to Lang'ata road, Mbagathi road, and finally accessed State House.
The 10km journey from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to the bypass junction was a smooth one, with motorists using these routes advised to seek alternative routes.
The ongoing construction of the Nairobi Expressway has caused huge traffic snarl-ups on Mombasa road, with motorists forced to use either the Industrial Area, Jogoo road, or South B route as an alternative to reach the Nairobi Central Business District.
The 27-kilometre expressway from Mlolongo to the James Gichuru Junction in Westlands is expected to cost the taxpayer approximately Sh65 billion.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the JKIA-Westlands expressway is expected to be completed by the end of this year.
