On Tuesday, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu made history by becoming the first Tanzanian President to make a state visit to Kenya since October 2016.
Her visit comes at a time when both countries are seeking to renew ties and resolve their perennial tiffs on cross-border trade, including non-tariff barriers.
President Suluhu arrived in Kenya wearing a white mask, a tradition she maintains when on foreign trips.
She immediately headed to State House Nairobi for a meeting with her host President Uhuru Kenyatta, where she will receive a 21-gun salute, a privilege and tradition given to visiting heads of state.
One of the key issues on the agenda will be cooperation around Covid-19 management, particularly given Tanzania's lack of data on new infections since May last year.
President Suluhu had announced the formation of a committee to study the key issues around the pandemic, but the identity and terms of reference of the committee remain unclear.
As a result, Covid-19 management in Tanzania remains a matter of voluntary prevention measures.
President Suluhu's visit also comes at a time when Kenya and Tanzania are seeking to resolve their differences on cross-border trade and other issues.
