On May 4, 2021, Kamene Goro, a popular radio host at Kiss FM, sparked a debate among Kenyan men with her advice to date women within their financial means.
According to Kamene, the notion of materialism should not exist, as no one likes poverty, including men themselves.
'The whole essence about this is for people to stay on their lane. If I can be able to go to Kempinski, we shall go and when I pay, do not think I am disrespecting you as a man,' she said.
However, Jalango, a fellow radio host, opposed Kamene's idea, stating that women are not commodities to be afforded. He emphasized the importance of giving love a chance, regardless of financial status.
Some social media users reacted to the debate, with one user agreeing with Jalango's philosophy, saying, 'Mapenzi ni kutoka kwa moyo. Even God doesn’t love us for money.'
Another user added, 'I agree with jalas... it’s all about how you feel about the other person, hii story ya ku afford nime kataa.'
