On May 4, 2021, detectives in Ruiru made a significant discovery, recovering millions worth of fake currency hidden in a half-way constructed rental house along Ruiru-Kiambu road.
According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the fake money, worth Ksh 362, 500, 000, was found in nylon papers inside metal boxes.
The fake currency was in denominations of 100 dollars, 50 pounds, and one thousand Kenya shilling notes.
Three Cameroonians, 44-year-old Paulin Francis, 37-year-old Njikam Omar, and 31-year-old Jacob Kentong, were arrested for questioning after they were found in the building.
Investigations suggest that the illegal production of fake currencies could be happening elsewhere before the fake money is transported for storage in Ruiru before it's distributed to unsuspecting persons.
Detectives also recovered 250 kilograms of fake gold nuggets, 70 suspected fake bars of gold, a dollar photocopy machine, liquids, passports, and other items.
This is the second such recovery in two years, following a similar discovery in 2019.
