On Wednesday, detectives from the DCI's Transnational Organized Crime Unit arrested two foreigners in Mombasa for possessing fake currency.
The suspects, Jamil Salman Abdul, 43, and Tesfawork Ermias Dogso, 30, were found operating in the country illegally.
During the arrest, detectives discovered a khaki envelope containing 198 forged Euro notes in 100 denominations hidden between the driver and co-driver seats of a Nissan Note, KDA 505Y.
According to detectives, all the recovered notes bore similar serial numbers – BCE ECB EZB EKT EKP 2002 – and more.
The notes are believed to have been used to defraud unsuspecting Kenyans of their hard-earned cash.
The incident comes just a week after a similar discovery was made in Kilimani, where detectives found fake currencies totalling millions of shillings.
