As the June 30 deadline for filing tax returns approaches, Kenyans are being warned that failure to comply will result in severe consequences.

According to a notice published by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) on May 3, 2021, individuals and entities that fail to file their tax returns will have their Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) de-registered and removed from the KRA system.

The KRA targets 62,727 PINs for de-registration by the end of June, with an estimated 7,107 individual accounts affected.

Those who fail to file their tax returns will be unable to apply for jobs, open bank accounts, or register land, as these services require a valid PIN number.

The KRA is urging taxpayers to take advantage of the Voluntary Tax Disclosure Programme and pay their outstanding liability to avoid heavy penalties.

Individuals and entities are required to submit their annual tax returns for the year 2020 online through the iTax platform by June 30, 2021.

The iTax portal can be accessed through https://itax.kra.go.ke.
