Kenya's Boxers Gear Up for Tokyo Olympics in Russia

Published on May 3, 2021, the national boxing team 'Hit Squad' is scheduled to travel to Russia for a week-long international tournament ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games.

The tournament, Konstantin Korotkov Memorial Boxers' Cup, will be held from May 10-18 in Khabarovsk at the Lenina Regional Sports Complex Stadium.

The quartet of boxers, Nick Okoth, Christine Ongare, Elly Ajowi, and Elizabeth Akinyi, who have qualified for the Summer Olympics, will face top European boxers in the tournament.

Okoth will compete in the featherweight (57kg) category, while Ajowi will fight in the heavyweight (91kg) category at the Olympics.

The team will be accompanied by head coach Musa Benjamin, assistant coaches David Munuhe and John Waweru, Communication Director Duncan Kuria, and team manager Linus Ouma, the Kenya Police chairman.
