On May 3, 2021, Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) announced that the newly-built Green Park Terminus would introduce daily charges to cover its maintenance costs.
The charges, which will be levied on users of the facility, advertisers, and traders, will be used to maintain the facility's cleanliness, safety measures, and fumigation.
According to NMS Transport and Public Works Director Engineer Michael Ochieng, the charges will be a token fee that enables the facility's sustainability.
"The park will operate a certain fee, a token fee, which enables its sustainability. It will translate to what activities will be within the park, what traders will sell, (and) use of the ablution blocks, among others," Ochieng explained.
The Green Park Terminus, constructed at a cost of Ksh200 million, will feature message boards, a supermarket, a health center, and traders will be allocated spaces to sell their goods inside the facility.
A police station has already been put up on the facility, and it is expected to host financial institutions and eateries, among other businesses, which will also part with a token fee.
Earlier in April, NMS carried out a three-hour test run on the facility, which created confusion among motorists and commuters and caused a traffic snarl in the city.
