Kenya Records 18 COVID-19 Deaths, 137 New Cases

Kenya has recorded 18 COVID-19 deaths, bringing the country's total fatalities to 2,781 since March 2020.

According to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe, nine of the deaths occurred within the last month, while nine others were detected from audit reports.

Kenya's COVID-19 caseload has now reached 160,559, with an additional 137 people contracting the virus.

The country's positivity rate stood at 8.3 percent on May 3, 2021, based on 1,641 samples tested.

Kenya has conducted a cumulative 1,681,420 tests since March 2020, when the first COVID-19 case was reported.

216 patients have recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 109,077.

President Uhuru Kenyatta lifted the partial lockdown in five counties on Saturday, citing a significant reduction in infections.

The Head of State also announced the re-opening of schools scheduled for next week, as well as the lifting of the ban on eating from hotels and restaurants.
