As the country prepares to celebrate Madaraka Day, Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong'o has announced that the city is ready to host the event, which will be graced by President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

According to Nyong'o, the preparations for the event are complete, with the ceremony scheduled to take place at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga sports ground in Mamboleo Kisumu on May 3, 2021.

The governor noted that the event will present a golden opportunity for the economy of Kisumu to benefit, with many visitors flocking to the city from as far as Nairobi.

"We have unprecedented luck because Kisumu town will be completely spruced up due to the President's visit," said Nyong'o. "The most important thing is that we will be hosting high-caliber visitors who have been landing in this town since two weeks ago, with many visitors flocking from as far as Nairobi and of course, you understand the economic significance of this for our city."

The governor also announced that the County of Kisumu will install two huge screens at Kirende and Raila ground, where residents who will not get an opportunity to access the stadium will be able to follow the proceedings with compliance to the Covid-19 regulations.
