On April 25, a horrific incident shook a family in Baringo County when a primary school head teacher allegedly threw his five-month-old baby into an open fire. The incident has sparked a massive manhunt, with police intensifying their search for the suspect in neighboring counties of Nakuru and Uasin Gishu.
According to Baringo North Sub-county Police Commander Fredrick Odinga, the search for the suspect has been ongoing since Saturday, when police raided the suspect's house alongside the area assistant chief. However, the suspect was nowhere to be found.
Speaking to The Standard on Monday, Odinga vowed to bring the suspect to justice, saying, “He will run but will not hide for long.”
The suspect's wife and mother of the baby recorded a statement with the police on Friday, as the child continues to receive treatment at the Baringo County Hospital. The police have urged residents who may have information on the suspect's whereabouts to share it with them.
Area assistant chief Sam Kamuren has advised the suspect to surrender himself to the authorities, citing the couple's history of marital problems prior to the incident. Kamuren also expressed his support for justice, saying, “I advocate for justice, and strongly condemn the incident, but again, I have received conflicting information that needs to be investigated to determine what really happened.”
The baby is currently recuperating at the hospital, where doctors are treating him for burns.
