On April 28, 2021, a dramatic incident unfolded at a lodging in Nairobi's river road area, leaving one man's property in question.

Stephen Gacheru Ndegwa, a 31-year-old from Nyahururu, had traveled to Nairobi to meet his friend Jackline Wangui Wanjiku. After a night of drinking at Somma Guest House, Gacheru woke up to find his mobile phone, an Infinix Hot 10 valued at approximately Sh11,499, missing.

He reported the matter to the Central Police station, sparking a chain of events that would lead to Jackline's court appearance.

According to court documents, Jackline, a mother of one who works around Nairobi's Latema Road, claimed that Gacheru had asked her to keep the phone until he paid her a debt. She alleged that she left the Guest House at 3am, taking the phone with her.

However, Gacheru disputed this account, telling the court that Jackline had agreed to keep the phone until Friday. Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi heard the case, with Jackline pleading not guilty to the allegations.
