On Labor Day, President Kenyatta hinted at the possibility of resuming sporting activities in Kenya, sparking hope among fans and players. The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sports are expected to issue a joint statement soon, paving the way for the resumption of sports.

Community football, in particular, has been severely affected by the pandemic, with many tournaments and leagues coming to a halt. The Bangbet Champee wa Mtaa tournament, held in Kibera and other regions in Nairobi, was one of the last major events before the restrictions were put in place.

The tournament, which attracted over 3,000 fans, saw Kipaji FC emerge as the winners, taking home Ksh. 200,000. AV Fitness came in second, receiving Ksh. 100,000, while Bundes FC ranked third and received Ksh. 75,000.

Coaches and players are optimistic that the resumption of sports will bring back the excitement and energy that community football has brought to the neighborhoods. Mr. Feisal Hassan, Coach Kipaji Soccer Academy, noted that the pandemic has brought a massive loss to the sports industry, but teams continue to practice and hope for better times.

For fans like Mr. Omollo, a Kipaji FC supporter, the pandemic has meant missing out on watching their favorite teams play. 'Watching my home boys play football was part of my routine because I enjoy watching them grow and follow their dream but now I cannot anymore because of the covid-19 restrictions,' he said.

AV Fitness team captain David Ochieng noted that the absence of fans and the cancellation of matches and rehearsals have taken a toll on the team's morale. However, they remain hopeful that the resumption of sports will bring back the excitement and energy that community football has brought to the neighborhoods.
