Published on May 3, 2021, the DCI has asked the public to be vigilant against fraudsters who prey on young women via social media.
A 28-year-old woman has filed a report with the authorities after being conned out of Sh52,000 by a man she met online, who promised to send her gifts at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi.
The woman was deceived into believing the man had sent her gifts, which she was to collect at the airport, but upon arrival, she realized she had been conned.
According to the DCI, women are being lured with promises of a good life abroad but end up being swindled of their hard-earned money.
DCI detectives have established that the fraudsters mainly operate from Kisumu and Kiambu, and have been posing as successful businessmen with expensive lifestyles on social media.
The DCI has warned women to be wary of such fraudsters, who may end up tricking them into more dangerous situations, some of which may cost them their lives.
