On Labor Day, President Uhuru Kenyatta announced the lifting of the suspension of sporting activities, a move that comes as a huge relief to sportsmen who were struggling financially due to the ban.
The ban, which was imposed a month ago to curb the rising numbers of coronavirus infections, had halted all sporting activities countrywide, including the BetKing Premier League, the Kenya Cup, volleyball, basketball, and hockey leagues.
Despite strict adherence to COVID-19 protocols, the President had ordered a ban on sporting events, leaving only a selected few to train, with the Ministry giving preference to teams preparing for national assignments and the Olympics.
However, with the suspension lifted, sporting activities are set to resume, with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Sports jointly issuing regulations to guide the resumption.
"The resumption of sporting activities shall be guided by the regulations to be issued by Ministry of Health jointly with the Ministry of Sports," President Kenyatta said in his address from State House.
