On April 27, 2021, detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) made a significant arrest at Kondele police station in Kisumu, taking into custody five police officers.
The arrest has brought back memories of a similar incident in 2019, when officers manning roadblocks at Mamboleo and near the Kisumu International Airport were apprehended by the same team.
During the 2019 arrest, officers fled the scene with EACC detectives and some residents in hot pursuit, resulting in a chaotic melee. One officer escaped, another fired several shots, and a female colleague was hit.
Nyanza regional police boss Karanja Muiruri sought to confirm the details of the arrest from the area commander before offering more information to the media.
