A report by Weekly Citizen has sparked controversy over the appointment of Joseph Rading to the Siaya public service board. Rading was part of a team summoned by the District Criminal Investigations headquarters in Murang'a Road last year to record a statement over alleged embezzlement of Sh2 billion at the Homa Bay county government.
He was accompanied by Homa Bay county secretary Isaiah Ogwe and other officials from the county government. Rading's past involvement in politics, including a failed bid for the Gem constituency seat in the 2017 ODM nominations, has raised eyebrows.
Locals are planning to launch a legal battle against Rading's appointment, citing his alleged involvement in the Homa Bay scandal. Area governor Cornel Rasanga has been criticized for nominating Rading to the county public service board despite his pending case.
Reports have emerged of Rading's questionable style of operation, driven by greed for money and nepotism. Sources claim he has been involved in bribery and kickbacks, and has employed his son at the county government.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the asset recovery unit may be interested in the building known as Rading Plaza, suspected to be part of the proceeds of stolen money from the Homa Bay county government.
