On August 26, 2020, Migori Governor Okoth Obado presented himself to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) offices in Kisii, alongside his children, who are accused of fleecing the Migori County Government of Sh73.4 million.

According to officials, the governor and his children appeared before detectives at the EACC offices in Kisii on Wednesday morning, a day after the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji approved charges against them.

Obado is facing a murder charge in the killing of his girlfriend Sharon Otieno, who was brutally murdered while pregnant. He denies killing her.

The governor and his children are accused of receiving multiple payments from companies trading with the Migori County Government between 2013/2014 and 2016/2017, totaling Sh73.4 million.

Some of the money was used to purchase a prime property in the upmarket Loresho Ridge in Nairobi, registered under Obado's daughter Evelyn.

Obado's children received Sh38 million, which was allegedly spent on paying their school fees in Australia and the United Kingdom and purchasing two Toyota Landcruiser V8's.
