On August 25, 2020, US First Lady Melania Trump delivered a live speech from the White House to the Republican party convention, pleading with Americans to embrace racial unity.

Her speech came as massive protests hit Kenosha city after police shot a black man Jacob Blake eight times in the back under unclear circumstances.

She urged residents to refrain from violence and looting, and instead come together in a civil manner to work and live up to their standard American ideals.

She also asked Americans to denounce assumptions based on race and made a reference to the US history, encouraging them to focus on the future while still learning from the past.

Her speech was part of the second night of the Republican National Convention, which was designed around the theme of 'Land of Opportunity.'

President Donald Trump's children, Eric and Tiffany Trump, also gave speeches on the night, with Eric Trump basing his arguments on 'radical Democrats' who he said want to disobey the US National Anthem.

He faulted Joe Biden for planning to defund law enforcement, although the Democrats' flag bearer has not made such a proposal.

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo also tendered a pre-recorded speech from Israel, hailing Mr. Trump's 'America First vision.'
