On Tuesday, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Amb. Raychelle Omamo inspected the progress of the United Nations COVID hospital under construction at the Nairobi Hospital, a 150-bed facility expected to be completed by mid-September.

The hospital is being constructed in collaboration with the UN, Government of Kenya, and Nairobi Hospital to cater for the global organization's workers and family members in Africa.

The UN will not only provide financial support but also specialized equipment for the facility.

CS Omamo expressed confidence in the project's progress, stating that it will showcase the country's healthcare competence and place Nairobi at the heart of medical care in the region.

The hospital will remain operational even after the COVID-19 crisis.

During the inspection tour, CS Omamo hailed the progress of the work being done, which was within the agreed timelines.

The construction of the facility started on July 20.

Present during the inspection tour were Nairobi Hospital CEO Dr. Allan Pamba and UN Nairobi office Director-General Zainab Hawa Bangura.

The hospital will include 25 intensive care and 50 high dependency units, as well as an operating theatre, laboratory, radiology, and physiology services.
