Published on August 25, 2020, a photo surfaced online showing a burial in Siaya County, Ugenya, where a grave was consumed by fire.

According to eyewitness Florence Wangechi, the scene was extraordinary, with the grave erupting in flames just as the casket was being placed inside. The priest had to run for his life to escape the inferno.

Wangechi, who had escorted her friend to the funeral, explained that such incidents are believed to occur when the deceased was murdered by a family member. She recounted the events, saying, 'I had escorted my friend to this funeral together with some other friends. We saw wonders. We had to enter the car and rush back home. This was real, I have never seen something like that but my friend told me it is a normal occurrence in their home area, especially if the deceased was murdered by a family member.'

Kenya has witnessed several unusual incidents, including cars refusing to move depending on the deceased's wishes, particularly among the Luhya community in Western Kenya. In some cases, the vehicle carrying the casket would turn and face the opposite direction until rituals were performed.

Other bizarre incidents include the body refusing to enter the coffin and the casket refusing to enter the grave until rituals were performed. The recent incident of a grave being consumed by fire is a new and unusual occurrence that has left many stunned.
