On August 25, 2020, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji gave the green light for the prosecution of Migori Governor Zedekiah Obado in relation to the embezzlement of Kshs. 73.4 million belonging to the county.
According to Haji, Obado allegedly used proxies to embezzle the funds, and it is further alleged that between 2014-2017, Obado used his children's bank accounts to receive money from the county.
It is alleged that companies wired Sh39 million to the governor's children's accounts, which was used to pay school fees, upkeep, and medical bills in Australia, Scotland, and the UK.
Obado and 23 others, including his four children, are set to spend nights behind bars following the DPP's approval for their arrest.
