On August 25, 2020, Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji ordered the arrest and prosecution of Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his children for allegedly misappropriating Sh73 million public funds.

According to Haji, an audit trail of the money paid to various companies revealed that persons closely related to Governor Obado indirectly received over Sh73 million through his children.

The companies involved in the alleged misappropriation of funds include Misoft Company Limited, Tarchdog Printers, Deltrack ICT Service, Seletrack Consultants, Mactebac Contractors, Joyush Business, Atinus Services, Kajulu Business, Swyfcon Engineering, Victorius Investments, Dolphus Softwares, Dankey Press, and Pesulus Services.

Investigations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission revealed that the directors of the companies were proxies of the governors, including Obado's three brothers, who wired the money back to Obado's children's bank accounts.

The alleged misappropriation of funds led to the loss of over Sh73.4 million, with some of the money being used to purchase a house in Loresho Ridge for Obado's daughter, Evelyne Adhiambo Zachary, and to buy high-end cars and educate his children in Australia, Scotland, and the United Kingdom.
