On August 25, 2020, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji ordered the arrest and prosecution of Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his children for misappropriating Sh73.4 million public funds.
According to a statement by the DPP, an audit trail revealed that the governor's actions led to the loss of more than Sh73.4 million, with some of the funds being used to purchase a house in Loresho Ridge for his daughter, Evelyne Adhiambo Zachary.
The funds were allegedly received by Obado's children through multiple payments from companies trading with the Migori county government, with some of the companies being proxies of the governor and his brothers.
Some of the companies involved in the alleged misappropriation include Misoft Company Limited, Tarchdog Printers, Deltrack ICT service, and others.
Obado's actions allegedly led to the loss of more than Sh73.4 million, with some of the funds being used to purchase high-end cars and educate his children in Australia, Scotland, and the United Kingdom.
