On Monday night, a 30-year-old M-pesa agent was brutally murdered at Kapsoit trading centre in Ainamoi Constituency, Kericho County.
According to Kericho County Police Commander Silas Gichunge, the assailants accosted the agent at around 8 pm as he was closing shop, stabbing him in the stomach before fleeing with Sh160, 000.
First responders reported that the agent's legs were bound with a rope and he had been stabbed in the stomach using a sharp object.
Police officers visited the crime scene at night and are expected to release more details about the assailants and their motive in the coming days, said Gichunge.
Local leaders, including Kapsoit Member of County Assembly Paul Chirchir, have condemned the heinous crime and called for thorough investigations.
Chirchir also requested an urgent security meeting to address the rising levels of insecurity in the trading centre, saying, 'The security agencies must keep their ears to the ground and ensure that the lives and property of our people are secured.'
Beatrice Kemei, a board member of the Rural Electrification Authority, attributed the rising crime level to alcoholism and drug abuse.
