Deputy President William Ruto has come out strongly against the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) for what he termed as 'double-speak' on corruption issues in the country.
Speaking at his Karen residence in Nairobi on Tuesday, during a meeting with religious leaders, Dr Ruto said the opposition party's stance on corruption was 'glaring, loud and obvious.'
He criticized ODM's 'double-standards' position on the vice, saying they had been lecturing the government to resign and take responsibility for corruption allegations, but now wanted a special audit to be conducted first.
Dr Ruto said ODM was pushing for the special audit as a strategy to 'sanitise' some of its members who had been involved in COVID-19 pandemic scandals.
He added that all investigative agencies in Kenya were independent and did not need lectures on what to do, and would certainly act at the right time.
ODM leader Raila Odinga had on Monday defended the party's position over Ksh 43 billion graft allegations at Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA), saying a special audit should be conducted first to ascertain the veracity of the allegations.
He also made it clear that the party would not defend anyone found to have benefitted from funds and other resources meant for fighting the coronavirus pandemic.
