Published on August 25, 2020, this guide will walk you through the process of converting your digital TV into a smart TV.
Getting Started ¶
Before you begin, ensure that your TV has an HDMI port. If it doesn't, you can purchase an HDMI-to-RCA adapter to connect your smart media player.
Option 1: Apple TV Box ¶
Connect one end of the HDMI cable to the Apple TV box and the other to an HDMI port on your TV. Note the HDMI slot number you used. Plug the power cable into the back of the Apple TV box and an electrical outlet. Turn on your TV, change the input to the matching HDMI slot, and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.
Option 2: Streaming Stick ¶
Simply plug the streaming stick into the HDMI port on your TV. Assemble the power cable by plugging the USB cable into the adapter brick, then unfolding the plug. Plug the cable into the stick and an electrical outlet. Change the TV's input to the matching HDMI channel and press the Play/Pause button on your remote to pair it with your Fire Stick/TV. Select a wireless network and enter the password.
Option 3: Portable Media Player ¶
Portable media players, like Google's Chromecast, are small sticks that look like USB pen drives. Plug the Chromecast cable into an HDMI port on your TV, attach the USB power cable, and turn on your TV. Select the appropriate HDMI number and wait for the Chromecast setup screen to appear. Download the Google app on your smartphone, open it, and follow the setup instructions to begin using your TV like a smart TV.
