It's been a year since the passing of Dr. Joyce Laboso, the late Governor of Bomet County, on July 29, 2019. Despite the pain of her loss, her legacy continues to inspire us to emulate her values, principles, and servant leadership.

As Governor Hillary Barchok takes the reins, he is committed to delivering on the development promises made to the people of Bomet. The county is on a path of progressive transformation, driven by sound economic policies and strategic plans established by Dr. Laboso and Governor Barchok.

The development blueprint is built on economic empowerment, service delivery, and good governance. This has led to the implementation of meaningful development projects, including the value addition in the dairy, chicken, Irish, and sweet potatoes value chains. The county is also investing in sustainable food production systems and resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production while maintaining safe ecosystems.

Under Governor Barchok's leadership, the public service has been restored, and services are now delivered effectively and efficiently. The county has also prioritized access to quality education, with new ECDE classrooms constructed and additional teaching assistants employed. Health infrastructure has been upscaled, and medical supplies and qualified personnel have been deployed to improve health services.

Furthermore, the county has embarked on aggressive road works, including maintenance and opening up new roads to attract investment and spur economic growth. The government has also stepped up efforts to increase accessibility and ease of movement of people and goods across the county by constructing high-quality road networks and other public infrastructure.

Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the county remains committed to its development agenda. The County Emergency and Response team has activated emergency preparedness and response mechanisms, and over 200,000 masks have been produced for free distribution countywide. The county is also working closely with development partners, including the Kenya Red Cross Society, The World Vision Kenya, and the National government, to advance the devolution agenda in Bomet.
