Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi has kicked off a 16-week intense workout program to shed off his 'kitambi' and achieve a defined six pack by December.
According to Sonko, he has been motivated by public pressure to embark on the fitness journey, which he believes will not only improve his physical appearance but also his overall health.
"Before this year ends I have to get a 6 pack. After a busy weekend, I woke up on Monday feeling really good. Today marks my first day in the gym due to public demand I'm getting rid of this big stomach," Sonko said in a social media post.
As part of his fitness plan, Sonko has advised individuals stuck at home due to the Corona Virus pandemic to create time and workout to remain physically active.
"Since the outbreak of the coronavirus most people have been spending most of their time indoors leading to less physical activity. I would however advise young people especially men to take some time and do some physical activities to remain physically fit," he added.
With Sonko's new fitness journey, he has joined the growing list of politicians sweating off any unwanted weight in the gym. Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho tops the list of pro fitness politicians and often records himself in the gym getting his workouts in as a way to encourage others to embrace a healthy lifestyle.
His good friend, Mvita Member of Parliament, Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir has also shed off more than 40kgs over a period of two years, all thanks to consistent workouts. According to the MP, the eye-opening moment for him was when he was denied access to skydive while on a vacation in Dubai due to his weight.
"It hit me because when I went on the weighing scale (because they had to get all these details) they said I was going to defy gravity," he recalled.
Shariff Nassir maintains that his tremendous weight loss is all because of his hard work in the gym and proper diet rubbishing rumors of undergoing surgery.
