On a memorable night at the Bauhaus Galan Wanda Diamond League in Stockholm, world 1500m champion Timothy Cheruiyot reaffirmed his status as the planet's finest 1500m runner on August 23, 2020.
Although he didn't quite reach his desired pace, Cheruiyot demonstrated his unyielding determination, leaving the competition in his wake.
As the final pacesetter stepped aside with 500 meters to go, Cheruiyot seized the opportunity, with Stewart McSweyn and Jakob Ingebrigtsen in hot pursuit. The Norwegian teenager managed to overtake the Australian in the final lap, but Cheruiyot's finishing strength proved insurmountable.
Cheruiyot crossed the finish line in 3:30.25, with Ingebrigtsen trailing behind in 3:30.74. McSweyn's persistence was rewarded with a 3:31.48 career best for third place.
Meanwhile, Karsten Warholm made a stunning impression in the 400m hurdles, clocking 46.87 to break his own European record and solidify his number two position on the world all-time list.
