On August 25, 2020, Orange Democratic Party leader Raila Odinga weighed in on the debate surrounding the COVID-19 funds scandal, defending his party's call for an audit before investigations.
According to Odinga, an audit is necessary to establish the facts on the usage of COVID-19 resources, citing past successful investigations like the maize scandal and the Arror and Kimwarer dams cases as examples.
Deputy President William Ruto had previously criticized the party's position, calling it an attempt to defend corruption. However, Odinga maintained that his party will not defend any of its members or their family members found culpable in the alleged misuse of COVID-19 funds.
Activists have been holding demonstrations in Nairobi, Nakuru, and Kisumu to press for prosecutions against officials involved in the multi-billion scandal.
