Former ODM MP Masuod Mwahima has died at his home in Vyemani, Likoni Sub-County, Mombasa, on Monday night at 11 pm.

According to his family, Mwahima succumbed to complications from asthma, for which he had been treated at St Thomas Hospital on Sunday just a day before his death.

Mwahima, who served as a mayor in Mombasa City council from 1999 to 2002 and as the MP for Likoni between 2007 and 2013, had left the Orange party in 2016 to join Jubilee, citing attempts to rig him out of the party nominations.

However, he failed to recapture the seat after the current MP Mishi Mboko won it in the 2017 General Election, and his subsequent lawsuit to challenge the election was dismissed by Judge Erick Ogola in 2018.

Before joining ODM, Mwahima had worked as the Kanu chairman for Likoni branch.

His demise comes weeks after the death of former Changamwe legislator Ramadhan Kajembe, who succumbed to Covid-19 complications.
