On Monday, August 24, 2020, the United Nations Human Rights body entered into a partnership with Egerton University's Faculty of Law to launch a programme in human rights.
The UN body donated several human rights books to the university's library in Nakuru to boost legal studies at the institution.
Li Fung, the UN senior Human Rights Adviser at the office of the High Commissioner for Rights in Kenya, praised the faculty for their efforts in sensitizing the public on domestic violence and basic human rights.
"We hope to continue donating vital human rights books and other materials to assist students to get a better understanding of the human rights law issues as they pursue their legal studies," said Ms Li.
The partnership aims to support Egerton University's ongoing Legal Aid project, which has been training chiefs and community leaders to resolve disputes in society.
Prof Rose Mwonya, the Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University, thanked the UN body for the donation, saying it will greatly benefit the university's Legal Aid project.
"As a university, let me register my appreciation for the book donation because such resourceful books are not readily available and most of the time they are very expensive," said Prof Mwonya.
The Faculty of Law at Egerton University is set to launch a Master's degree Law programme, making it the third institution in the country to offer the programme.
