On August 24, 2020, Paris police imposed a ban on fan gatherings in the capital city, specifically targeting those planning to welcome Paris Saint-Germain players upon their return from the Champions League final.
The ban, which took effect from 14:30 on Monday until 06:00 on Tuesday, was announced in a statement by the police, urging fans to refrain from gathering at the Parc des Princes.
According to Police Commissioner Didier Lallement, the decision was made in response to the events that unfolded in the city after PSG's loss to Bayern Munich, which resulted in unacceptable damage and violence.
The police also prohibited the opening of bars, pubs, and restaurants, as well as the consumption of alcoholic beverages on public highways in the area surrounding the Parc des Princes from 16:30 on Monday until 06:00 on Tuesday.
PSG players landed at Charles de Gaulle airport on Monday and proceeded directly to the ground by bus, where a social event was planned for the players and their families to conclude the 2019-20 season.
However, the Collectif Ultras Paris, a leading fan group, denounced the ban, stating that Prefect Didier Lallement 'in no way wants to see our city celebrate.'
