On August 24, 2020, Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya launched a scathing attack on the Judiciary, alleging that it was derailing development activities in his ministry.

Speaking during a tour of the Kenya Fisheries Service offices in Malindi, Kilifi, Munya claimed that the justice system was being misused by powerful individuals to subvert justice and hinder development in the agriculture and fisheries sectors.

He noted that the Judiciary had stopped various projects in his ministry, including the repossession of fish landing sites in the Coast region and projects in the tea sub-sector that would have boosted the livelihoods of local communities.

Munya also asked the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) secretariat to include the powers of the Judiciary in its recommendations to prevent further delays in the implementation of projects on flimsy reasons.

He further criticized the Judiciary for demanding increased budgetary allocations while its services to the public were wanting, suggesting that it was serving the interests of a few individuals.
