Kenya Power Seeks Debt Collection Services to Tackle Outstanding Bills

Published on August 24, 2020, Kenya Power is taking steps to address its outstanding debt of KSh 5.2 Billion, which has been accumulating since 2019.

The utility firm has invited bids for debt collection services to help recover the debt, with the tender closing on September 2, 2020.

According to available figures, the outstanding debt is categorized into two types: accounts cancelled on customers' request and accounts terminated for non-payment.

Kenya Power has split the debt into regions, with Nairobi accounting for the largest share of KSh 2.3 Billion, followed by the Coast Region with KSh 845.7 Million.

The company is also working with security agencies to deal with rampant cases of illegal connections, vandalism, and fraud that are eating into its bottom line.
