With TikTok's future uncertain, Instagram is calling out to creators to bring their energy to its Reels feature.

Launched in 2020, Reels allows users to record, edit, and publish short videos up to 15 seconds long, complete with special effects, filters, and separate audio tracks.

Here's a step-by-step guide to using Instagram Reels:

Open the Instagram camera and select Reels from the bottom scroll bar. The editing tools will be stacked on the left side of the screen. Use the record button to create your clip or series of clips, and tap the arrow at the bottom when you're ready to publish.

Once published, you'll have the option to write a caption, choose a cover image, add hashtags, and share your video to Reels. Reels will appear on Explore and be stored on a tab on your profile page.

Reels can also be posted to your Feed, sent as a DM, or posted to your Stories, where they'll disappear after 24 hours.

Watching other users' Reels is easy: tap the search icon on the main toolbar, and Reels will be featured at the top. From there, you can follow users and like, share, and comment on Reels directly.
