On August 23, 2020, a group of 12 armed robbers attempted to steal goods from two godowns in Nairobi's Industrial Area.
The robbers, who were armed with pistols and pangas, broke into Sihra Coffee Machinery Service and Gensham Wood Enterprises godowns and were loading goods into a waiting Mitsubishi canter with registration number KAS 340M.
According to police reports, the chief controller reported a burglary and stealing at a godown along Lungalunga road opposite a Shell petrol station. Police officers from the Industrial Police Station responded quickly to the situation.
When the officers challenged the robbers to surrender, they opened fire, forcing the police to retaliate. Eight of the suspects were fatally injured, while four others escaped with bullet injuries.
The police recovered two homemade pistols loaded with 9mm ammunition, a revolver, and pangas from the scene. The canter used in the robbery was towed to the Industrial Area Police Station, and the bodies of the eight suspects were taken to the City Mortuary.
