President Uhuru Kenyatta's decision to form an alliance with ODM leader Raila Odinga in March 2018 was meant to be a game-changer, but it has turned out to be a football fiasco. According to City lawyer Ahmednassir Abdulahi, Raila's performance has been underwhelming, much like that of Arsenal's Nicolas Pepe.
Ahmednassir used a football analogy to explain the current political situation in Kenya, saying that Raila's first real task was to deliver the Third Revenue Formula in the Senate. However, he has been unable to beat a team of four young Senators, who were signed free of charge, in the battle for the revenue formula.
The four Senators, Kipchumba Murkomen, Johnson Sakaja, Ledama Ole Kina, and Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, have been calling for a win-win formula. According to Ahmednassir, they have been a solid defensive midfield, breaking down every attack marshalled by Uhuru's team.
President Uhuru Kenyatta's new recruits, including Gideon Moi, Samuel Poghisio, and Kalonzo Musyoka, have also been criticized for being average players who are either out of shape or below par. Ahmednassir accused Uhuru of signing players on free transfer, who are not up to the task.
He also claimed that the new players have taken illegal substances, involved in the KEMSA scam, and are on the radar of enforcement agencies like the DCI and EACC. The President's new recruits are also unable to gel, with Raila, Kalonzo, and Gideon fighting over the armband.
Deputy President William Ruto, on the other hand, has managed to form a formidable Champions League team after being released by the President one year ago. However, Ruto's team was slapped with a two-year ban and cannot sign new players until at least July 2021.
Uhuru and Ruto's teams are likely to face off in the Champions League Finals in 2022, with both teams believing they have what it takes to win the big prize.
