On a fateful Monday, a tragic accident occurred on the Gilgil-Olkalau road in Nyandarua County, claiming the lives of two individuals, including a medic.
The ambulance, belonging to the Nyandarua County government, was involved in the crash, which happened near Karunga trading centre, approximately 15 kilometres from Gilgil town.
According to eyewitnesses, the driver had earlier ferried a patient to Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi and was on his way back to Nyahururu when the accident occurred.
Gilgil OCPD John Onditi revealed that the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid a pothole, resulting in the ambulance crashing into the roadside.
"In the process, the ambulance lost control and crashed into the roadside killing the male driver and the medic," Onditi stated.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Gilgil Sub-County Hospital mortuary, while the wreckage was towed to Gilgil Police Station.
