On August 24, 2020, Equity Group Managing Director and CEO Dr James Mwangi announced the rollout of a universal number for all outgoing calls to customers and external stakeholders.
The new number, 0763 000 000, is part of the bank's recent rebranding efforts and aims to promote safety measures when communicating with customers.
According to Dr Mwangi, the universal number will make it easier for customers to identify when the bank is calling them, and they will continue to reach the bank through the 24-hour Contact Centre by calling 100 or 0763 063 000.
Equity has been continuously investing in secure platforms and capabilities to fortify its relationship with customers. The bank obtained the prestigious global Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard 3.1 (PCI DSS 3.1) certification, becoming the first bank in the country and one of the first in East Africa to do so.
Dr Mwangi advised customers to note the new number and be cautious of any caller asking for confidential customer information, such as passwords or PIN numbers. He warned that such callers are fraudsters and customers should immediately discontinue such calls and report them to the nearest police station.
Equity continues to make inroads in its innovation and digitization strategy, with its mobile and internet banking channels processing 83% of all transactions, and agents and merchants processing 12% of transactions by June 2020.
