On August 22, 2020, Chris Obure and his bodyguard Robert Ouko were arrested after Robert shot businessman Kevin Omwenga. The incident occurred in Ngara, Nairobi, where Omwenga lived.

According to police reports, Ouko claimed that he shot Omwenga accidentally, contradicting claims of an altercation between the two men.

Ouko stated that he and Omwenga were friends and had been together at an entertainment joint in Kilimani before heading to Ngara to pick up a Tanzanian woman, who was later seen entering Omwenga's house on CCTV cameras.

Omwenga's brother was also present in the house, preparing dinner in the kitchen when the incident occurred.

Ouko alleged that Omwenga had borrowed his gun for 'show-off purposes' and that the gun went off, discharging a round that hit Omwenga in the chest.
