Kenyan middle-distance runner Timothy Cheruiyot made a statement at the Stockholm Diamond League on August 23, 2020, winning the men's 1500m event with a time of 3:30.25.

Cheruiyot's victory marked his season's double, following his win at the World 1,500m championship. He led the pack from the start, with Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen and Australian Stewart McSweyn in close pursuit.

Despite the windy conditions, Cheruiyot maintained a strong pace, finishing ahead of Ingebrigtsen (3:30.74) and McSweyn (3:31.48). Ingebrigtsen, who had set a new European record in Monaco, expressed his determination to beat Cheruiyot in the future.

Cheruiyot's win was a testament to his dominance in the men's 1500m event, and he was pleased with his performance, saying, 'It was a bit windy, but the pace was good and I am pleased with my win today. We are travelling around many countries but we are following all precautions and wearing masks so I am happy to be racing.'

Other notable performances at the Stockholm Diamond League included Ferguson Rotich's fourth-place finish in the men's 800m event and Laura Muir's win in the women's 1500m event, with a world lead time of 3:57.86.
