On a warm Sunday evening in Stockholm, Timothy Cheruiyot cemented his status as the new king of the 1500m race, claiming his second consecutive win at the Wanda Diamond League in a time of 3:30.25.
Cheruiyot's victory marked the 11th time he has beaten World Champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen, who pushed him to his limits but ultimately fell short.
Trained by Timothy Sein, Cheruiyot employed a clever strategy, sticking behind the rabbits in the opening two laps to create a healthy gap between himself and the leading pack.
As Sein dropped off the pack with 500m to go, Cheruiyot seized control, using his long legs to stride confidently and play his cards close to his chest.
At the bell, Cheruiyot shifted gears, constantly glancing behind his shoulders to ensure there was no danger, before unleashing a superb final kick to leave Ingebrigtsen and the chasing pack gasping for breath.
Meanwhile, Cheruiyot's teammate Winny Chebet finished fourth in the women's 1500m race, clocking 4:02.58, while Britain's Laura Muir set a world-leading time of 3:57.86.
Hellen Obiri, who had won the 5,000m race in Monaco the previous weekend, seemed deflated, finishing 11th in 4:10.53, while World silver medalist and Olympic Champion Faith Kipyegon pulled out of the race after winning in Monaco last weekend.
