On August 23, 2020, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi called for a judicial inquest to probe the alleged theft of COVID-19 funds, citing the risk of losing donor support if graft is not addressed.
Addressing the press, Mudavadi expressed concern that waiting for the auditor general and investigative agencies to deal with graft at Afya house would take too long, as these institutions are already overwhelmed.
He argued that a commission of inquiry would provide a more effective solution, as commissioners enjoy immunity and the inquiry would be conducted in public.
According to Mudavadi, failure to deal with Afya house scandals with immediacy will chase away donors who are supporting health intervention programs in the country, benefiting millions.
So far, the government has received over 220 billion shillings from international donors to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 on Kenyans.
Meanwhile, West Pokot Governor Prof. John Lonyang'apuo has called on leaders to tone down on political rhetoric and focus on offering solutions to the problems afflicting Kenyans.
