Ida Odinga Turns 70 ¶
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's wife, Ida, marked her 70th birthday in style with a night of dancing and celebration at her Karen home on Saturday, August 22, 2020.
Ida was joined by other national leaders, including Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi, who wished her a happy birthday and praised her role in Kenyan politics.
"You are Strong, Wise, graceful and selfless," Waiguru tweeted. "Not many know or understand the critical role you play in this nation. God grant you many more fruitful years ahead, full laughter and love," she added.
Ida's 70th birthday party was attended by close to 10 top-ranking leaders, including President Uhuru Kenyatta's brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, and former Nairobi Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the event showed a lack of social distancing, with many guests in close proximity to each other.
Ida, who was born on August 24, 1950, stunned Twitter users with her graceful aging, with many noting that she could pass off as a 50-year-old.
"Ida Odinga is 70 but Looks 50 years," one tweep observed. "Mama Ida Odinga looks 50. Those years of struggle and service to the country, fighting for democracy. May she continue serving this great nation. You're a wonderful mother of the nation," stated one Abuga Makori.
