On August 23, 2020, Airtel announced a partnership with MoneyGram, a US-based cash transfer platform, to enable its subscribers to send and receive money globally.

The deal, which is subject to regulatory approvals by the Communication Authority of Kenya (CAK), will allow Airtel money users to instantly access the MoneyGram platform from all countries where it has a presence.

This partnership is in addition to MoneyGram's existing arrangement with Safaricom, which allows its users in Kenya and Tanzania to access the platform.

MoneyGram has similar partnerships with other mobile money wallets, including Ecocash (Zimbabwe), Vodafone cash, Airtel Tigo Money, and MTN momo (Ghana).
