On August 23, 2020, Senate Majority Whip Irungu Kangata emphasized the need for senators to consider the views of the Commission of Revenue Allocation and the Council of Governors when determining the third basis formula for revenue allocation.

Speaking in Murang'a County, Kangata stated that the formula should ensure no county loses out. He emphasized that the best formula should accommodate both the marginalized and populous counties.

The Council of Governors has expressed a desire to revert to the old formula to prevent counties from experiencing a cash crunch.

Meanwhile, in Machakos County, Kangundo MP Fabian Kyule criticized the Senate for ignoring the disparity in populations between counties when considering the revenue sharing formula.

During the burial of the son of former freedom fighter Paul Ngei, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko called on Ukambani leaders to unite before forming political factions with other regions. Sonko also urged the executive to take swift action against those who looted funds meant to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
